Earlier today geeks everywhere were wowed by the news that Marvel was in talks with Fox to reclaim the rights to the characters Galactus and the Silver Surfer in exchange for extending the latter studio's lease on Daredevil. But a new report tells a different, equally interesting version of this behind-the-scenes drama.

Devil's Deal: Marvel Could Reclaim Characters

Deadline claims that the Galactus/SS report was being "strenuously denied by studio insiders." These sources claim that with Chronicle's Josh Trank onboard to helm Fantastic Four, that film "is a big priority and the studio would be crazy to give away a cornerstone villain. Especially when the studio is very lukewarm about rebooting Daredevil." The implication here is that even though The Grey's Joe Carnahan is in talks to direct Daredevil, the studio might be ready to let the character revert back to Marvel -- unless Marvel is willing to co-finance the film.

Of course, one has to wonder if Trank would even want to use Galactus and the Silver Surfer, since those characters were part of the previous FF film from 2007.

Who knows what's really going on here. These "inside sources" could be planting information or misinformation in the trades as part of the negotiation process (wouldn't be the first time). The only thing that seems certain right now is that someone could be going back home to Marvel soon.
