A defining feature of the average "unlimited" data plan is how, well, limited it really is. Various fine-print sections of wireless contracts explain how a plan is really only unlimited until your reach the … um … limit; then it's either capped or throttled.
That's been the case with T-Mobile's Unlimited plans, which punished anyone using over 5GB per month by throttling speed beyond basic usability or downgrading them to 2G access. But a new plan, available starting Sept. 5th, will offer honest-to-god unlimited data, and for $5 less each month than the 5GB ceiling plans.
Of course, there's a hilarious, inevitable catch: whereas old "unlimited" plans allowed tethering, the new plans will try to limit it - sort of like how "all you can eat" really means "all you can eat here."
